2016 Commencal Meta V4!

 Check out my new ride, the 2016 Commencal Meta V4! Commencal's US headquarters is in Carlsbad, CA so instead of having them ship the bike to me, I decided to drive down, pick the bike up, and visit family and friends while in San Diego. I had them assemble the bike and also do the tubeless conversion.

The bike is much different from my old bike. It looks and feels a lot bigger, not only because of the 27.5 wheels, but also because of its modern geometry which gives it a slacker head angle and longer wheelbase. It took a bit of getting used to, but I love it so far, especially the dropper post. Mad MAD love for the dropper - those things are awesome!

My first ride was at Saratoga Gap which is only moderately challenging. The next day I took it on the more technical Braille Trail and it handled everything with aplomb. The 1X drivetrain proved plenty good for the climbs - any concerns I might have had about going with a 1X drivetrain have pretty much been alleviated. I'm looking forward to taking the bike up to Northstar this coming week to really put it through its paces. :-D

Update Sep 19: I finally got my pedals (https://www.amazon.com/Wellgo-MG-5-Magnesium-Mountain-Pedals/dp/B00NYPUXOG) and did a proper weighing. The bike without pedals is 30.2 lb. With the Wellgo MG-5 pedals, the bike weighs 30.7 lb. Commencal lists this bike in a size M at 29.76 lb so the weights definitely seem reasonable for my size L.
