New Planet Granite

Originally posted to RohJuh.com on May 22, 2006. Today was a highly anticipated day for Judy and I as it marked the grand opening of the new Planet Granite climbing gym in Sunnyvale. Rumors were that the new gym would be huge, with a bouldering area nearly twice the size of the Santa Clara gym. For the last month or so, the problems at the Santa Clara gym have been stagnant because all the route setters were focusing their attention on the new gym. Thus, we were also eagerly looking forward to lots of new problems to work on. We were definitely not disappointed. The new gym absolutely rocks! In addition to everything being brand new, the gym is also very bright and spacious. Not only is the bouldering area much larger than before, but the walls are noticeably taller as well – I was definitely cognizant of how high I was on several problems. Although we spent all our time bouldering, we did notice that the sport climbing area looked to be much larger as well. There’s also a good-sized f...

Biking to Work

Originally posted to RohJuh.com on May 11, 2006. Today I biked to work for the first time. It wasn’t just the first time I’ve biked to TiVo, but the first time I’ve biked to work ever. One of my co-workers offered some suggestions on which route to take. From our house on Seale, I just took Middlefield to Ellis which goes under the 101. From there, it’s on to Manila, then Moffet Park Dr, and then the bike path that parallels the northside of the 237. All in all, pretty straightforward, and most of the route has a nice wide shoulder. Total round-trip was about 25 miles. A good way to not only get some exercise, but to sock it to OPEC. Granted, it’s a pretty small sock, but hey, it’s something. :-) I’m definitely going to take advantage of the nice weather and bike to work on a regular basis through the summer. 2 Responses to “Biking to Work” I’ve preached good excercise and “socking it to OPEC” to you practically the whole time we were at HNS together. I’m sure Derek did the ...

Roubaix Arrives!

Originally posted to RohJuh.com on May 9, 2006. I was finally able to pick up my Roubaix today. Mike’s Bikes sold quite a few bikes during the sale in which I bought my bike so it took a while for them to take delivery and build my bike. The bike was actually ready on Sunday, but they like to do a bike fitting when you pick up your bike, and for some odd reason, they don’t do fittings on the weekends. Say huh? Anyhow, today was the earliest weekday I could make it into the store for my fitting. With a new bike, I obviously wanted to get on it and ride as soon as possible. Judy was working late and suggested that I ride up north to San Carlos so we could have dinner at Thai Time, probably her favorite Thai restaurant in the Bay Area (her favorite remains Thai House in San Diego). It sounded like a good plan so that’s what I did. I quickly installed the bike computer I had bought earlier and just took El Camino Real straight up from Palo Alto to San Carlos. Somewhat to my surprise, th...
