Powder Mountain

Originally posted to RohJuh.com on Feb 24, 2003. We all left for the airport around 3 PM with Aaron and Kate in one car, Patty, Dave, and Bob in another, and Judy, Ryan, and myself in a third. As we were getting ready to go through the airport screeners, I realized that I had left my snowboard tool in my backpack. Crap, I thought. I had already checked in my bags so I figured I’d just try to get through. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), they detected my potential weapon and I had to go back and put it into one of my check in bags. Luckily, those bags were still sitting out waiting to be loaded and it was no problem stuffing the tool into Behemoth. By coincidence, VJ was there just returning from a business trip. We both thought that we had met previously on a rafting trip, but Judy violently corrected us. Although we both had, on separate occasions, gone white water rafting in King’s Canyon, we had apparently never gone on the same white water raf...

Palumbo-Head Proposal

Originally posted to RohJuh.com on Feb 8, 2003. What’s the first thing that comes to mind when people hear that Aaron finally proposed to Kate? Probably “It’s about friggin’ time!” or something to that effect. After nearly 7 long years (or is it 8?), Palumbo-Head finally took a dump. Not a literal one mind you (and I apologize if that conjured up any painfully unpleasant visions), but a reference to the old saying, “Shit or get off the pot”. So it’s a bit vulgar and not quite PC, but hey, it’s good for a laugh. At least for the guys. The women on the other hand are probably grumbling about the ruination of a touching, beautiful, and loving moment etc. Oh well. So what was the reason behind his, uh, constipation? After all, the two of them seemed perfect for each other – they had a great relationship, shared many common interests, and genuinely enjoyed being around each other. Plus they’ve been dating for a really long time. Despite Aaron’s many quirks (far too many to lis...

Ouray & Telluride

Originally posted to RohJuh.com on Feb 4, 2003. Day 1: Early, Early Birds The crew left for Ouray on Friday, Jan. 31. Aaron, Sean, and John took the early flight out of SD and boy was it early. Their flight was at a god awful 6:15 AM which means they had to wake up around 3:30 or 4:00?!!! Aye Carumba! The rest of us took the much more reasonable 11:30 flight. Broken Bags and Bad Karma? When we reached Montrose and got our bags, Bob and Ryan both noticed that their suitcases were broken into. Ryan had a lock on his bag that was basically cut off, and Bob’s suitcase actually had its closing mechanism broken (though we didn’t know it was broken until the return flight). Such is the world these days thanks to Osama and friends. We reached the Thrifty rental car desk to get our rental car. Not sure if they recognized any of us, but it certainly wouldn’t be a surprise if they did. After all, we were probably the only Asians ever to pass through the little town of Montrose and not...
